バルーチ族のラグ / Baluch Tribal Rug

The Nordic and Joseon-style furniture in Rakudo-An’s three rooms is complimented with tribal rugsーhandwoven carpets made from wool and other natural materials woven by tribes in West Asia. All of the rugs selected happen to be from the Baluch tribe, a nomadic group living in the border regions of Iran and Afghanistan. Their textiles are characterized by deep reds and intricate designs, which differ from the vibrant color palettes of other tribes. The subdued tones harmonize beautifully with the space at Rakudo-An.

The high-quality, beautiful colors of Baluch carpets are dyed using various natural materials. The distinctive deep reds and vermilion come from madder and indigo, while peacock green is derived from indigo. Camel brown and browns are achieved using walnut husks. Henna is used for orange and brown hues, and ivory is dyed using alum.

The motifs, which are often stylized, include paisley, willow leaves, grape leaves, trees, stars, chickens, camels, and other elements from their daily life. These rugs carry the earthy essence of West Asia.
